Our Malay Chinese tour guide of Penang took us to the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy temple where we prayed for mercy from all the smoke. They burn money and other incense as offerings to the gods. They also make offerings of donuts, ice coffee and flowers.
Add in some ice cream, and I'd definitely give mercy if I were the goddess.
